Ballet Black: Pulse
(This is a past event and is no longer running)
The Coronet Theatre and Ballet Black are thrilled to announce a new joint project designed to nurture emerging choreographic talent from within Ballet Black. Building on a relationship that has delighted audiences with six Ballet Black dance films over the past three years, The Coronet Theatre is opening its doors to provide a dedicated artistic space and intimate setting where new creativity can flourish.
This opportunity for young choreographers offers the ideal platform to mentor Ballet Black dancers as they explore their passion for choreography. Over three evenings in June, audiences will experience the premieres of short, original works from talented Ballet Black dancers Isabela Coracy, Helga Paris Morales, and former company member Jacob Wye, each bringing their unique artistic voice to the stage for the first time. This collaboration represents a shared commitment by The Coronet and Ballet Black to fostering artistic growth, diversity, and innovation in dance. Join us as we celebrate these emerging choreographers and their new works!
Helga Paris-Morales on her piece:
“The concept is about “Trains going nowhere”. Anxiously rushing to get to a place without knowing what it is you need or want or even where you are going. Finding yourself in total lack of peace and stillness, living a life at full speed and no purpose until you find presence and begin experience things fully and clearly.”
Isabela Coracy on her piece, Creatures:
“Creatures explores the deep connection between music and movement – how rhythms bring us together and shape our emotions. At its core, it is a journey of discovery, where individuals find dance, let their bodies groove, and transform raw, instinctive energy into something real.
The piece delves into personal and collective worlds, where music sparks curiosity and new emotions, shaping the way we move and feel. Inspired by the phrase, “Assim como são as pessoas, são as criaturas” (Just as people are, so are creatures), the choreography brings to life the idea that our raw, unfiltered selves evolve through rhythm, expression, and connection.”
Jacob Wye on his piece, Perennial:
“Jacob Wye presents dance theatre group, “People on The Move”. Collaborating with former Rambert dancer Hannah Rudd and acclaimed actor Daniel Crossley (best known for his role as Cosmo in Singin’ in the Rain on the West End, and currently featuring in productions for Netflix and Channel 4). Building on the success of previous collaboration — The Limit — which Rudd and Wye performed at the Royal Ballet and Opera’s Linbury Theatre, the trio is developing a new work that interweaves text and dance in a similar manner. Delving into the tipping point in relationships, where connections are indulged in, strained, and irrevocably altered.”
