A Tribute to Patrizia Cavalli

Patrizia Cavalli was one of Italy’s most popular contemporary poet who passed away in 2022. Gifted with an unusual irony and sarcasm, she has described in verse and prose the daily struggles, joys and pains of being a woman.

In this intimate tribute, scholar Alberica Bazzoni will guide the audience through Patrizia Cavalli’s life and work, accompanied by readings performed by actor Amelia Donkor.

Patrizia Cavalli was an Italian poet. She has published many poetry collections, among which the most memorable are Le mie poesie non cambieranno il mondo (1974), Il cielo (1981), L’io singolare proprio mio (1992). Before her death, a collection of her writings in prose was published under the title Con passi giapponesi and won the Premio Campiello in 2019.

Alberica Bazzoni is a researcher in the fields of modern Italian literature, literary theory, feminist, queer, and decolonial studies. She has a PhD in Italian Literature from the University of Oxford and has done postdocs at the University of Oxford, Warwick and Milan. Today she is based at the Institute for Cultural Inquiry in Berlin. She is the author of Writing for Freedom: Body, Identity and Power in Goliarda Sapienza’s Narrative (Peter Lang, 2018).

Amelia Donkor is a British Ghanian actor, writer and facilitator blending creative arts and community building. She trained at LAMDA and has worked across theatre & television, as well as leading corporate training, voice workshops and women’s circles. She is passionate about story-telling and discovering new ways to play and liberate.
