Hung Dance: Push And Pull
Choreographed by Lai Hung-chung, Push and Pull is an immensely skilled duet that explores the push and pull dynamics of relationships. From memories of his mother the piece expands into reflections on emotional structure and social tension.
Drawing on the principles of Tai Chi and the laws of force and balance, the two dancers navigate the fragile space between attraction and independence, intimacy and autonomy. With fluid and precise body language they create a profound meditation on the human connection, at once collective and deeply personal.
Capturing the universal rhythm of giving and receiving, resisting and yielding, Push and Pull is a quiet fable about resilience and tenderness, reminding us that sometimes, yielding is, itself, a way forward.
Hung Dance is one of Taiwan’s leading contemporary dance companies. Push and Pull won four major awards at the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC) in 2025:“This choreographic work explores the beauty and complexity of tension and counterbalance, with remarkable precision and poetic sensitivity.” It also received two awards at the International Choreography Competition in Hannover, the oldest competition of its kind in Europe.
