Rewriting Love And Pain

(This is a past event and is no longer running)

EXHIBITION

Rewriting Love & Pain, a retrospective exhibition of Austro-Brazilian artist Roberta Lima’s art exploring bio-politics, affection and gender affirmation through body modification performance, videos and sculptures.

Lima uses gender stereotypes and symbols to explore and challenge our comprehension of love and pain. How do social rituals show us what love really means? How can social rituals be transformed to reveal pain as an acceptable process in everyday life?

Roberta Lima acknowledges the body modification movement and community as crucial to their art. Their work has been presented internationally at the Cairo Biennale, Kyoto Experiment and Vienna Art Week. They return to exhibit at The Coronet as a non-binary artist, reexamining their work within a new personal context.
