A dancer journeys through the digital world via her virtual avatar, charting how modern individuals are surrounded by self-media, influencer culture, and the relentless pursuit of metrics in an attention economy. As she performs, other dancers, beings and worlds unfold in a spectacular virtual space.
Current/y is a visually extraordinary performance integrating imaging technology and stage design, employing game engines, motion capture and projection to create a virtual digital world that interacts with the dancer. As the story unfolds, the performance captures the emotional ebbs and flows of contemporary life – from anxiety and confusion to an existential questioning of self-identity.
With each step in her journey, the audience witnesses how social networks reshape personal identity and value as the dancer experiences the rapid shifts in public opinion, the rise and fall of digital authority, the hidden violence of online bullying, and the endless chase for attention.
