Taiwan Festival: All That Remains (Virtual Reality)

(This is a past event and is no longer running)

AN AWARD-WINNING 360 VR experience

FREE to all Taiwan Festival ticket holders and accessible after every performance

Throughout the Coronet’s Taiwan Festival, in a free event for audiences, award-winning experimental company Riverbed Theatre brings the UK premiere of their immersive 360 VR experience All That Remains.

In groups of 5 people at a time, each individual audience member views the film through an Oculus headset that also includes spatial audio, intensifying the sensation of being fully immersed in a virtual world.

We are comforted by facts, by the familiarity of things we know to be “true.” The sun rises in the east. There are twenty-four hours in a day. I exist. These truisms simplify our lives, enable us to get through the process of living. We are not afraid to leap into the air, because we know we will land on the ground. All That Remains explores the possibilities that exist beyond these everyday patterns, that blur the lines between truth and fiction.

Rather than convey a single idea or storyline, the film creates a meditative experience for the viewer. “All That Remains functions as a creative looking glass, a mirror through which the audience members can see themselves,” director Quintero explains.

Riverbed Theatre will also perform live in the UK for the first time with their new piece taking it down and putting it up from 25 to 27 April.

All That Remains had its world premiere at the 2022 Venice Film Festival before touring to Korea and Canada. It received of the Best Immersive Experience award of Luxembourg City Film Festival, the VR360 Award of Kaoshiung Film Festival.

Additional Information

Riverbed Theatre
Riverbed Theatre was founded in 1998 in Taipei, Taiwan. The company’s image-based, Total Theatre productions blur the boundaries between visual and performing arts. Critics have praised the organic, sculptural quality of Riverbed’s “subconscious” theatre, likening the performances to the best works of Samuel Beckett and David Lynch.

Craig Quintero
As the Artistic Director of the Taipei-based Riverbed Theatre Company, Craig has written and directed over fifty original image-based performances, including productions in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Singapore, China, France, Germany, and the United States. He is also a sculptor and installation artist whose work has been shown at the Asian Biennial, Venice Biennale Collateral Events, Kobe Biennale, Taipei Biennale, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taipei MOCA, and the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art. His VR experience, All That Remains, premiered at the 79th Venice Film Festival (2022) and has been screened at festivals including the Thessaloniki Film Festival, FESPACO, FilmMakerFest, and the Luxembourg Film Festival (where the project won the prize for the Best Immersive Experience). Riverbed’s new VR experience, Over the Rainbow, is premiering at the 2023 Tribeca Festival.
